Severance pay is the compensation and/or benefits an employer provides to an employee after employment is over. Severance packages may include extended benefits, such Author: Will Kenton.

Severance pay is often granted to employees upon termination of employment. It is usually based on length of employment for which an employee is eligible upon termination.
